What does it mean for a sealer to "breathe"?

The term "breathe" refers to the ability to pass water vapor through the sealer so that moisture is not trapped below the surface. Trapped moisture can promote mold growth. Trapped moisture in freezing temperatures can form subsurface ice that expands and causes flaking of the surface (spalling).

All Aldon sealers bead water and prevent entry from the outside, but the microscopic pore structure of the sealers allows subsurface moisture to "breathe" out.

Sometimes, despite your diligent research and the best of intentions of your suppliers salesperson, you might have been given the wrong information. Therefore, no matter how confident you are, whether first time user or seasoned professional, it just makes good sense to patch test a small area and evaluate the results in a few hours before doing a large area.
